CARTERTON SALE.

WRIGHT, STEPHENSON & CO., LTD. Messrs Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd., report: We. held our weekly sale at Carterton yesterday when we offered a big yarding to a good attendance. The entry of cattle comprised chiefly of good springing heifers and the enquiry was firm. Mr. Simon Dalgleish, of Longbush, offered 30 3-yr. springing heifers and these met with keen competition. Prices made up to £B/5/- and the line averaged the very satisfactory price of £7/10/-. Other heifers sold well; D. Anderson’s making £7/15/-, and Q. Donald (Jnr.), averaged £B/3/-. Springing cows made between £6 to £B. Store cattle sold at par rates, while there was a strong demand for anything in condition. Only a few sheep were offered. Pigs sold well, especially sows due to farrow. Porkers were in keen demand. Following are prices: Sheep: Store ewes to 15/-; cull ewes to 5/-; small wether lambs to 11/-; Romney rams to 21/-. Cattle: 3-yr. Ayrshire heifers, just calved £8 to £B/15/-; 3-yr. Ayrshire heifers, on drop, £7/17/6 to £B/5/-; 3-yr. spg. Jersey heifers, £6 to £B/5/-; 2-yr. spg. Jersey heifers, £4/10/- to £6; 2-yr. Jersey heifers, just calved £3/10/to £4; Jersey heifers r.w. P.A. bull, to £4/5/-; springing Jersey cows, £5/10/to £B/5/-; cows on drop, £6 to £7/15/-; empty cows, in good condition, £3/2/to £4; forward * cows, £2/2/6 to £3; store cows, 27/6 to 38/-.

Pigs: Weaners (small), 6/6 to 10/6; do. (medium), 11/- to 13/6; do. (good), 14/6 to 18/-; slips, 19/- to 24/-; porkers, 27/6 to 40/-; do. (good), to 47/-; sows to farrow £3/12/6 to £6/5/-; sows farrowing late, £2/18/- to £3/5/-.
