WOOL POOL
A JAPANESE PROPOSAL. MINISTERIAL ADVICE. TOKIO, July 30. The Ministry of Commerce and Industry convened a conference of wool industrialists and importers and told them that it is necessary in their own and in the national interests to form a pool or a similar organisation to eliminate bidding against themselves, and so buy as cheaply as possible in world markets, including Australia, if and when it was advisable to re-enter auctions in that country. It is reported that importers asked the Government to establish an organisation to control imports from Australia, South Africa, and South America. However, textilers objected in regard to South Africa and South America. It is reliably stated that stocks of Australian wool are calculated to be sufficient for six months if husbanded. Press reports of imports for the present season -were: From Australia, 750,000 bales; from South Africa, .24,000; from South America, 17,000; from New Zealand, 60,000. A few further arrivals are expected.
