AIR ACCIDENT.
DEATH OF MB. J. MELROSE. WING FAULT DEVELOPS IN MID-AIR. (Received Friday, 8.5 p.m.) MELBOURNE, July 31. The City Coroner, after an inquiry into the death of James Melrose, the aviator, on July 6, returned a verdict that the aeroplane got out' of control shortly after leaving the Essendon Aerodrome, resulting in the accidental death of a very competent airman. Expert evidence was given that a structural defect in the port main wing developed while the ’plane was in flight, resulting in its complete destruction in mid-air. An examination of the wreckage revealed a fault in that wing.
