The monthly gathering of the Saint Andrew Society will be held in St. Matthew’s Parish Hall to-night at 7.45 o ’clock. The annual effort of the Featherston branch of the British and Foreign Bible Society has just been concluded. The total collections amounted to £29 7s 3d.

In a Rugby match played at Pongaroa on Wednesday the Puketoi SubUnion senior team defeated the Wairarapa junior representatives by 15 points to nil. The game was played on a waterlogged ground, which suited the heavy Puketoi forwards.

The following are the handicaps for the Masterton Cycling Club’s road race this afternoon, starting at 2.30 p.m. from the Triangle to the Black Bridge and back: —th Sayers, Eastwood, Deegan, Clarke, scr.; Harman, Dykes, T. Sayers, 3min.; Condon, 6min.; Payne, lOmin.

The Fijian ladies’ hockey team, which is visiting Masterton next week will be the guests of the evening at a dance to be held in the Masonic Hall on Monday. Special items will be given by the visitors. The dance has been arranged by the Wairarapa Women’s Hockey Association. The Blue River Dance Band has been engaged. Yesterday Edward Tulley, aged 16, of S.S. Fordsdale, now in port at Bluff was admitted to the Southland Hospital suffering from a fractured skull. The youth, who eomes from London, apparently went to walk over a hold, mistaking the canvas for boards. He fell several feet to the bottom of the hold. He is on the dangerously ill list. -(P.A.) A final reminder is given of the dance to be held in the Masonic Hall to-night by th© Masterton Amateur Swimming Club. The Blue River Orchestra will supply the music and' the supper will be a feature of the evening’s entertainment. Included in the programme will be some novelty danceh, for which prizes will be given to the winners.

At 10 o’clock yesterday morning Mrs. Margaret Potts, aged 39, of Mauarewa, was crossing Dee Street, Invercargill, from the west side to the east when she walked into the -side of a motor lorry being driven in a northerly direction. It was snowing at the time and she had her head down. She fell back on her head on the bitumen and fractured her skull. She was admitted to the Southland Hospital where she died last evening.—(P.A.) The hearing of a claim for damages arising out of a collision between a motor cyclist and a stationary motor car on the night of December 8 was concluded before Mr, Justice Fair and a jury in the Supreme Court at Auckland yesterday. The claim was brought by Hblfdrd Stewart, 29, tally clerk, against George Alfred Francis Hancock, grocer. The evidence showed that the plaintiff collided with defendant’s car, which was unlighted. The jury found for plaintiff and awarded him £lOOO general and £259 special damages. His Honour entered judgment accordingly and counsel for defendant was allowed 14 days in which to move for a non-suit or apply for a new trial.—’(P.A.) Keen interest is being taken in the Wairarapa Charity Ball to be held in the Masterton Municipal Hall next Wednesday night and indications point to its proving a pronounced success. Mesdames D. H. S. Riddiford (Featherston) and A. R. Bunny (Masterton) will be the matrons of honour for the evening, and the reception committee, under the leadership of Mr. F. Corry (Masterton), will be Messrs J. W. Card (Featherston), Everard White (Gladstone), J. T. Jameson, I. A. Hart, J. Savage and J. Bradbury (Masterton). The supper will be an outstanding feature, and three M’s.C. will control the ballroom, Messrs W. Orange, J. J. Hunter and B. Iveson. The auxiliary orchestra for the supper period will be Te Tau’s and the Blue River Band will be augmented by a piano-accordion specialty. The services at the Masterton Methodist Church to-morrow will be conducted by the Rev. G. F. Stockwell. At the 11 a.m. service the junior choir will sing the anthem “We Walk by Faith” and at the 7 p.m. service the anthem will be “Ye That Stand in the House of the Lord.” Church Anniversary services will be conducted at Kuripuni by the Rev. E. E. Sage, of Petone, who will preach morning and evening. The anthems in the morning will be “Stand Up for Jesus” and “The Lord Shall Come to Zion,” the soloist being Miss Evelyn Jones. In the evening the anthems will be “Son of My Soul” and “Saviour Breathe an Evening Blessing” and Mrs. J. H. Conly will sing “I Know That My Redeemer Liveth.” Special offerings will be taken up for the Church Trust funds. As there will be no service at Solway the congregation is invited to worship with Kuripuni friends. The grand anniversary concert and social will be held at Kuripuni on Monday night. A general meeting of the New Zealand Labour Party (Masterton branch) is to be held in the Y.M.C.A. hall on Tuesday next at 8 p.m.
