BIDEFORD GOLF BALL.

BRIGHT & HAPPY OCCASION. The annual ball of the Bideford Golf Club, which was held in the Bideford Hall on Tuesday night, was one of the most successful functions ever held in the district. In spite of the very wet weather there was a large attendance of dancers from all over the Wairarapa and the unpleasant conditions outside only seemed to add to the gaiety inside the hall . Brightly coloured paper hats gave a carnival air to the crowd, and hooters, squeakers, and various other noice-producing instruments at times almost drowned the orchestra. A novelty snowstorm dance with very realistic snow and snowballs proved a very popular diversion. The hall was very attractively decorated, the main theme being a huge canopy in harmonising shades of yellow, green and orange. Ferns and feathery native shrubs surrounded the doors and the stage and relieved the bareness of the walls. A huge log fire on the stage, surrounded by easy chairs made a very comfortable spot for those not dancing. The ladies’ committee was in charge of the supper arrangements and great praise is due to them for the very fine supper which was served, in spite of the fact that they were working under rather difficult conditions. Jack Mac Kay and his Novelty Syncopators supplied the music, which went with a swing from beginning to end. Very much appreciated extras were supplied by Miss Joy Grantham and Mrs E, Wrigley. The Bideford Golf Ball is always looked on as one of the outstanding country functions in the Wairarapa but this year the committees responsible for the arrangements certainly surpassed themselves. and all who had braved the unpleasant weather conditions to attend the ball were certainly well repaid.
