ACTIVITIES OF PAST YEAR REVIEWED. TWENTY-FIRST ANNUAL REPORT. ’’The 1935-36 season was unique ia the history of the club for two particular reasons,” states the twenty first annual report of the Masterton Park Bowling Club, ’’namely the leasing and direct control of the green from the Borough Council, and the club’e attainment of its 21st. anniversary. This latter was celebrated by a dinner and social in the Savage Club Rooms on Saturday evening, June 20, 1936, when there was a big attendance, including nine foundation members and representatives of the Wairarapa Centre and sister clubs. The function was an outstanding success, the club receiving congratulations and best wishes from all for many happy returns of the day. A group photograph of members was taken as a permanent record, the president, Mr. Jenkins, providing an enlargement for the pavilion. Mr. Bell, the first, and foundation secretary, presented a photograph of the foundation members of the club. The leasing of the green naturally creates more responsibility for the club and your committee finds the present subscription of 35s barely sufficient to carry on and recommends that it be raised to at least £2. Even at this figure it will be the lowest in the Wairarapa, so that members cannot complain. The membership was well maintained and prospects are good for the coming season. Members are asked to make every effort to enrol new ones. (Continued on page 6.)

“Notwithstanding the indifferent weather experienced, the club's many engagements were carried through successfully, and pleasant relations maintained with sister clubs. The Centre Competition for the Booth Cup was won by the club, as also was the Kean Trophy, the coveted prize for the triangular match with Lyall Bay and Featherston. The Kia Toa Club, Hastings, could not work in their return visit to us this season, but will do so early in the coming one. Following are the winners of the different club games: Champioj singles, R. Jenkins; champion pairs: Braggins and Jenkins (s); champion rink: Butler, Spackman, (W. J. Gibson), J. C. Ewington (s); Spackman Cup (for Colts): L. Roff; Keatley Medals: Present holders, Wickens, Dixon (s). Challenge games for the Bell Shield (rinks), Mutrie Cup (pairs), and Kelly Cup (colts rinks) were played with the Masterton Club, but all are held by the latter. The club’s thanks are due to Messrs Gibson and Coe for their assiduous care of the green which played well and was selected by the Centre as the venue for the Champion Pairs. Mr. Geo. Scrivener was appointed greenkeeper, and carried out his duties very satisfactorily. The moist summer experienced precluded the necessity of watering and the club’s pump was not needed, but has been placed on its bed and only requires pipe connection with the lake to be ready when required. Our relations with the Borough Council and Park Custodian (Mr. Sturgeon) are of the happiest and we are indebted to them for considerable help. Mr. Charlie Wilton, a foundation and our only han. life member, presented the club with an oil painting of himself which will be treasured by members. It is our sad duty to record the death of Mr. Chas. Blewett, an old and valued member who endeared himself to all by his unassuming and kindly manner. I must record my personal thanks to all officers, especially Mr. Gibson, hon. treasurer, Mr. Kilgour, sole selector, Mr. Bell, hon. secretary, and all members for helping to make my presidential duties light and happy throughout the year. Thanks are also due to the ladies who helped ro materially on the social side, and to the Press for generous publicity of our various activities.
