TRIBUTE TO LATE MAYOR.
SERVICES TO CARTERTON AND DISTRICT. The Carterton Borough Council was only one of a number of local bodies on which the late Mayor, Mr. W. Fisher, had served, said the ActingMayor, Mr. D. L. Taverner, at Tuesday night’s meeting of the council. Mr. Fisher had spent the last 25 years practically entirely in the service of the public of the Wairarapa, he said, by acting on various public bodies. The borough had appreciated particularly his sterling and fearless leadership. The present favourable position of the rates and state of the borough finances were to a large extent due to his prudent administration. Mr, Taverner then asked members to stand in silence as a token of respect and appreciation of the late Mr. Fisher’s long and faithful service, and also as an indication of sympathy with the relatives.
