RETURNED SOLDIERS.
MEETING OF WAIRARAPA ASSOCIATION. Mr. J. H. Irving presided at a meet ing of the committee of the Wairarapa R.S.A., held at Masterton on Tuesday night. A letter was received from the Dominion headquarters of the N.Z.R.S.A., showing details of the recent Anzac Commemoration stamp sales, which totalled £17,181 4s lid. It was pointed out that the proceeds due to the R.S.A. would be in the vicinity of £B5OO, which would be paid into Dominion headquarters, and be known as the Anzac Commemoration Fund. The Wairarapa R.S.A. particularly wishes to thank residents and firms of the district for their support. A letter was received from the South African War Veterans’ Association, applying for assistance towards its benevolent fund. A grant of £lO was made for disbursement in necessitous cases. The Te Awamutu Association wrote asking for support to a protest against the handing over of the Soldier Settlers’ Branch of the Crown Lands Department to the State Advances Corporation. As this was a policy matter which was under action by Dominion headquarters with the appropriate Ministers, the committee decided to take no action. The secretary reported upon pension cases which had been taken up with the Department on behalf of disabled ex-service men. It was decided to purchase a Union Jack for the association’s use. The treasurer submitted a financial report, showing a credit balance of £495 4s Bd, and a total financial membership of 264. Four new members were elected. It was decided to recommend the son of an ex-service man to the Patriotic Association as a suitable trainee for Flock House, and to share the cost of training on a 50-50 basis with that body if the lad is acceptable.
