WAIRARAPA OUTCLASSED.

AUSTRALIAN SOCCER TRAM WINS EASILY. BRIGHT GAME YESTERDAY. The Australian Association, football team maintained its unbeaten record this afternoon when, in the final game of the tour, it outclassed Wairarapa to win 13-2. In spite of the heavy ground and the definite superiority of the visitors the game was fast, bright and interesting. The visitor’s tally of 13 goals brought the total scored during the New Zealand tour up to the century mark.

Although their shooting was inaccurate at times, the Australians gave a polished display, their clever footwork and brilliant combination being outstanding. Wairarapa were well and truly beaten, but even so their display exceeded expectations. At no stage were the homesters dismayed and their vigorous, forceful tactics provided a good foil for the visitor’s all-round brilliance. Wairarapa lacked nothing in aggression, but they were completely nonplussed by the speed and perfect combination of the Australians. Smith, the Australian centre-forward, scored 9 goals. The visitors gave a taste of their quality in the first minute of play when Donaldson centred to Smith, who headed in a beauty. Wairarapa drove to attack on several occasions, but they lacked the finish necessary. When a Wairarapa attacking movement broke down near the Australians’ goal, th© visitors swept upfield and Smith mad© it two up with a hot shot. A free kick paved the way for the next Australian goal, which was scored by Bryant. Wairarapa opened their account when McKenzie, who played a splendid game throughout, beat McNab with a stinger. Near the interval Smith gave Australia a 4-1 lead with a good goal.

The standard of play deteriorated somewhat in the second spell, when Australia’s superiority was even more pronounced. Smith, the visitor’s scoring machine, put on four more goals in quick time. Wairarapa fought back gamely, but the visitors were not to be denied and goals by Smith and then White saw them hold a 10-1 lead. Then Longworth netted a beautiful shot for Wairarapa from about 15 yards out. It was obvious in the closing stages that Australia were out after their 100 goals and before time repeated attacks saw Cameron (2) and Smith score additional goals, making the score: Australia 13-2. Mr. N. Heyes was the referee.
