MASTERTON STATION;
IMPROVEMENTS TO RAILWAY RESERVE. PLAN TO BE SUBMITTED TO DEPARTMENT. A proposal emanating from the Railways Department for the improvement by beautification of the surroundings of the Masterton Railway Station was discussed by the Beautifying Society at its meeting last night, when a plan drawn up by Mr. A. W. Reynolds was submitted to the meeting. The plan included the planting of well-chosen trees, including rhododendroms, on the railway reserve on the town side of the station. Provision was also made for a possible road giving access to Pownall Street and providing a shorter route to and from the station for residents of this locality. The area available for beautification extended from Lincoln Road to the Gasworks. “I am quite sure you can make a very beautiful station of it,” said Mr. Reynolds and other members agreed that the beautification of the area would be a decided asset to the town and if the road to Pownall Street were possible it would also be a scheme of betterment.
It was decided to submit the proposals to the Railways Department for its consideration.
