BRADDOCK TO FIGHT SCHMELING. (Received Tuesday, 7.45 p.m.) NEW YORK, July 27. Braddock to-day agreed to defend the championship against Schmeling. The bout is to be promoted by Madison Garden Corporation and will be held in New York, probably between September 24 and 30. WIN FOB STRICKLAND. SOUTH AFRICAN DEFEATED. (Received Tuesday, 7.45 p.m.) LONDON, July 28. The New Zealander, Strickland, defeated the South African, Dave Carstens, the referee stopping the fight in the seventh round. DUNN DEFEATS COUGHLAN. WELLINGTON, July 28. In a boxing contest at Petone tonight Henry Dunn, Hutt Valley, Ost. 51bs, won his first professional bout against Bob Coughlan, Manawatu, 9st. 71bs. Dunn, who won on points, was clearly superior throughout.—(P.A.)
Table tennis matches ’ were played last night between A and B teams representing the Masterton Winter Sports Club and the Parkvale Club. The A grade contest was won by Masterton by 18 matches 'o 6 or 41 games to 15. Masterton was also successful in the B grade by 13 matches (27 games) to 11 matches (30 games).
