OPAKI SUNDAY SCHOOL
ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS A JOYOUS OCCASION. Saturday last saw the celebration of another year’s work at the Opaki Sunday School. The scholars and teachers assembled at the school at 3.30 for games and tea. Mr. W. E. Howe, the organiser of the Wellington Sunday School Union was present by special Invitation and after tea entertained the children with games and blackboard puzzles while waiting the arrival of the parents and frieads for the evening’s entertainment. The schoolroom had been specially decorated for the occasion. Commencing at 7.30, the scholars, who had been trained by Miss Jessie Wingate, rendered an admirable programme, all taking some individual part. A children’s play entitled “The Pot of Musk,” in which fairies gambolled around to tinkling music was much enjoyed. Joan Rollo, Esther Mann and Douglas Buick took the principal parts and Freda Garrard, Peggy Wyeth, Enid Wingate, Peggy Logan and Esther Sullivan were the fairies. A community sing, led by a choir of ex-scholars was thoroughly enjoyed. Games under the supervision of Mr. W. E. Howe (the organiser), in which adults as well as children joined followed supper. During the evening Mr. Rollo thanked Mr. Wingate and his family for their continued interest and help to the children of the diztrict. Mr. Wingate, in reply, said they were greatly appreciative of the efforts of the parents to maintain the regular attendance of their children, several of whom sat for the recent Wellington Sunday Schoo! Union Scripture examination. Miss Wingate received the congratulations of the audience, coupled with a vote of thanks, for the success 'of her efforts in training the children. Thanks were also accorded to Mr. Howe, who said he was delighted to be able, once again, to meet the Opaki people. It was a Very happy evening and all are looking forward for the next Sunday School birthday.
