CHILDREN’S PARTY.
PUPILS BY MRS E. PATERSON. There was an attendance of over one hundred children and a large number of parents at a most enjoyable fancy dress party held in the Oddfellows’ Hall on Friday night. Besides lolly scrambles, a splendid programme of games was arranged for the children by Mrs Paterson as well as numerous competitions. Fun was caused by the “Apple Bobbing” and fish race, and particularly the “Fathers” race. The music for the singing was played by Mrs Paterson and for the children’s games, by Mr. B. Iveson. Messrs W. Yates, A. L. Paterson and others assisted in the entertainment of the children. Mrs B. Iveson judged the fancy costumes, the prize winners being: Tiny tots, girl, Josephine Jamieson, Fairy; boy, Bryan Yates, Grandma. Girl under 10: Gypsy, Betty Grey. Boy under 10: Nosey Parker, Trevor Judd. Girl over 10: Early Victorian: Josephine Janies. Boy over 10: Guardsman, Neil Dickie. Special, best pair: Polish Skaters, Peggy Reid and Lionel Kaan. Items were given as follow: Songs, Animal Crackers, Beverley Kaan; Little Poke Bonnet, Ellen Corskie; duets, Mexican Serenade, Margaret Thomson and Lionel Kaan; Two Old Tramps, Daniel Davey and Lionel Kaan; chorus, Lullaby: Beryl Weir Marjorie Grove, Edna McGovern, Joan Russell; recitation, Habit: Alistair McKenzie; The House That Jack Built, Julie Yates; The Gay Princess, Peggy Reid; Five Baby Piglets, Bryan Yates. Those who assisted Mrs Paterson at supper and in other ways were: Misses R. and J. Buckeridge, M. Iveson, O. Newland, B. Maunsell and J. Evans. Supper and the singing of the National Anthem brought to a close a most enjoyable and successful gathering.
