JAPAN PROTESTS TO GERMAN GOVERNMENT. AGREEMENT WITH CHINA RESENTED. ‘ LIKELY TO IMPAIR RELATIONS. (Received Sunday, 6.30 p.m.) LONDON, July 4. 11 The Times ’ ’ Tofcio correspondent sav the Japanese ambassador at Berlin has protested to the Geriqpn Government regarding the agreement between China and Germany for the sale of arms to CMai, pointing out that the agreement conflicts with the Versailles Treatjfcand is likely to impair Japan friendly relatione with HDrniany, especially as Japan is opposed to the sale of arms to China. The German Foreign Office replied that the agreement is only intended to promote trade between China and Germany. Japanese correspondents in China declare that under the agreement Germany undertakes to provide China with a large quantity of munitions, including anti-aircraft guna, mortars and tanks and is accepting payment over a period of four to six yearn in raw materials.
