COURSING.

SUCCESSFUL WAIRARAPA MEETING. OPEN AND MAIDEN STAKES. Splendid coursing was witnessed at the meeting held at Akura on Saturday by the Wairarapa Coursing Club. The weather was fine and there was a large attendance of interested spectators, entries were received and, with strong, well-trained hares, the coursing throughout was of a high standard. There were only three kills during the day. The open stake was won by the St. Leger winner, Rereatu, owned by ■Mr. H. Duley. This promising young dog has now scored two firsts at two starts. The maiden stake was won by Puketoi Magic, owned by Mr. O. Ericksen, of Dannevirke. Puketoi Magic is trained by Mr. P. Ryan, of Masterton. The performance of Puketoi Magic was remarkable for the fact that in n simitar event on Jnne 23, only 11 days previously, he refused to chase the hares and after three trials was withdrawn. Mr. Erickson, then placed him under the control of Mr. P. Ryan, of Masterton. It is stated that Puketoi Magic may now run in the Waterloo Cup at Christchurch at the end of the month. Mr. McGrath, of Wellington, had bad luck with his brilliant bitch, Wee Mata, when she ricked a shoulder in the semi-final of the maiden after briDiantly winning in the first round.
