WAIRARAPA ASSOCIATION COMPETITIONS. SATURDAY’S RESULTS. The Wairarapa Basketball Association’s matches played on Saturday last at the High School resulted as follow:—A grade: Wairarapa - High School Old Girls I beat lona, 27/15; Stars I' beat Technical Old Girls, 19/6; Greytown beat Stars 11, 31/7. B gradq: Wairarapa High School II beat lona, 3/2; Wairarapa High School Old Girls beat Technical Old Girls, 12/10; Stars won from Hospital by default; Greytown beat Dalefield, 17/91 The match between the Wairarapa High School and the representative team l proved an excellent practice for the representatives and was a fast and hard fought game. Though the representatives won by 21/4 the game was not as uneven as the score indicates. This was mainly owing to the fine play of the school centres who were quite a match for thiir opponents and kept their forwards supplied with the ball. The School goal throwing, however, was weak. The. outstanding players for the School were H. Howes, whose play in the centre was accurate and active, and E. Madsen whose quick interceptions, especially in the first half, spoilt the forward play of ’ the representatives. The representative team defenders, though individually strong, showed'little combination. The strongest third was certainly the forward third where the players showed some signs of understanding and anticipating one anotherS play. It Was noteworthy that the school usually won the tie balls and that the school girls were very quick indeed at picking up the ball. Representative team players should not lose on either of these points. The team certainly needs to achieve greater speed in the centre and some combination in all thirds before playing the Hutt representatives in a fortnight's time. ———.
