MEETING OF MASTEBTOW • LEAGUE. BLIND INSTITUTE CONCERT. j ■The monthly meeting* of the We- 4 men’s National Welfare League wee held yesterday at the Midland Hotel. Those preseat were: Mesdames H. R. Pither (fa the chair); 8; L. P. Free, 8. Pletcher, H. P. Harrison, A. Corzkie, A. Charleson, F. C. Daniell, F. Garland, 8; J; Munn, A. W. McKenzie, A. E. Kitgour, Misses Reynolds, Kummer and M. Boddington. Apologies were received from Mesdames T. Jordan, R. C. Drummond, L. Hunter, G. H. Collie,. J. Caselberg, W. McKenzie and G. McCracken. The president welcomed two members to the league. A letter was received from Lady Galway thanking the league for its ananal report and for the invitation te visit it at a future date. A letter was received from Mrs. , Jordan. regarding a circular letter from i Mrs. T; C. A. Hislop, Mayoress of Wet- | lingtou, stating that a campaign had i been started 1 to raise funds for a gift , from New Zealand women to the National Art Gallesy of a portrait of her Majesty, Queen Mary. Contributions ‘ are to be limited to Is each. Mrs. A. H. W. Evenden wrote resigning from the league on account of her removing to Taumarunui. Mre. Pither referred to the good work Mm. Evenden had done and it was to forward her a letter of appreciar tiea.

A letter was received from. Str Clntha McKenzie stating that Wednesday, October 28, would be a sutttWe' date for the Blind Institute Band concert. The Municipal Hall has been-en-gaged for that date. An offer was received from the secretary of the Town Women’s Guild and League of Mothers' Choir to help with the sweet stall at the concert. The offer is to be submitted to Sir Clutha McKenzie for approval.

Miss Kummer reported that twe visits had been paid to the Public Hospital during June. Fruit, cukes, pies, flowers and reading mattes were distributed. Visitors for July 7 wi» be Mesdames R. C. Drummond and G. H. Collie; for July 21, Mesdames 8. L. P. Free and F. Garland j and for August 4 and 18, Mesdames J. Casalberg and J. Mcßae. A visit was paid to Buchanan Home on June 18, sweets, biscuits and flowers were given to the inmates, also afternoon tea. Community singing was greatly enjoyed, Mrs. Coleman being tj;e accompaniste. Maori songs were sung by Mrs. 8. V. Gooding and an elocutionary item was given by Miss B. Coleman. Miss McKay delighted the inmates with items on the piano accordeon. Matron Higginson later entertained the visitors at afternoon tea. Mrs. Fletcher reported on cases attended to in social welfare work. Groceries, fruit and firewood were distributed in necessitous cases. The secretary of the Two Garment Room, Mrs. Charleson, reported that 57 people had been attended to during June. Three hundred and sixty-four garments were distributed and 294 were received. As Mrs. Skjellerup has removed to Invercargill, Mrs. F. Garland was appointed in her place as convenor of this work, The following donors were thanked Mesdames V. Taylor, Evenden, Norwood, Thornton, C. W. Rutherford, H. Price,. C. Reynolds, W. Taylor, Matthews, Duuderdale, Miss Daken and Mr. Daysh.
