MOTOR LICENCES.
FRESH TEST FOB ELDERLY DRIVERS. A CHRISTCHURCH DECISION. CHRISTCHURCH, June 30. Elderly- drivers in future will have to submit to fresh tests after reaching the age of TO, according to a traffic committee report received by the City Council last night. The committee reported that its attention had been drawn to the fact that there was a large number of elderly drivers who had obtained driving licences and had passed the necessarytests some years ago, but who had not been subject to test when renewing their licences. It was possible that some of these drivers were not physically fit to drive and instructions had been issued to subject drivers over seventy applying for renewals of their driving licences to a fresh driving test, including sight and hearing tests as laid down in the Motor Vehicles Act. If the applicants failed to comply with the standard required their licences would not bo renewed unless a medical certificate as provided for under the Motor Vehicles Act was presented.— (PA.)
