CAR WASHED AWAY.
CAUGHT IN FLOODED STREAM. The loss of a three-seater car, which was caught in a flooded stream on: Tuesday morning, is reported from Bideford. Mr. Hearn Smith, who had collected his mail, found on his return journey that the second of the twostreams he had to ford had risen considerably and while he was trying to cross the engine stalled. Ho endeavoured to restart the car, but had to abandon it and had some difficulty in getting out himself. By th® afternoon the car had been washed against a groyne, being practically covered by water. Later it had disappeared altogether and although a search was made yesterday for a distance of two miles downstream there were no signs of the car. About 4J or 5 miles away from the scene of the mishap, at Glendonald, however, a running board and the back of the dickey seat, which were apparently wrenched off when the car turned over, were found'. As the stream has a solid, rocky bottom end has many large rocks in its course, it is considered that the oar would be badly battered.
