LEAKAGES IN BRITAIN.
AN AMERICAN ALLEGATION. FOLLOWING ON BUDGET INQUIRY. FURTHER INVESTIGATION URGED. (Received This Day, 0.20 a.m.) LONDON, June 8. Questions will probably be asked in the House of Commons regarding allegations appearing in the American Press, notably the news magazine “Time” to the effect that the Budget changes were not the only leakage of confidential official information in the last few years. “Time” alleges that similar leakages occurred over the British Government's guarantee of Newfoundland bonds in 1933, when Mr. Thomas was Dominions Secretary. The allegation was cut out with scissors from all copies of “Time” selling on British bookstalls, but sufficient uncut copies reached England. As a. result, the allegations are gaining widespread currency, notably in the city and many members of the House of Commons are urging that the Government’s best course is to investigate this and similar allegations and clean up matters once and for all.
