BASKETBALL.

WAIBABAPA ASSOCIATION’S COMPETITIONS. POSSIBLES v. PROBABLES MATCH. Very unsatisfactory weather was experienced on Saturday, with the result that the Basketball Association's games arranged for the afternoon were not all completed. The results of the gomes that were played are as follow:— A grade.—Wairarapa High School Old Girls I. beat Stars IL, 28/5; lona beat Wairarapa High School Old Girls 11., 12/6. B grade: Wairarapa High School I. beat Hospital, 21/6; Greytown beat Dalefield, 10/3; Dalefield beat Stars, 7/4.

The Wairarapa High School Old Girls I. v. Stars 11. match was somewhat one-sided as the score indicates, but of course gooj play was impossible owing to the surface water on the court and to the slippery ball. The Old Girls’ forwards were again playing very accurately. Miss J. Rayne was the referee.

The lona versus Wairarapa High School Old Girls’ 11. match was a much closer and more interesting one. At half-time the score was 4 ail after a very close struggle. During the second half the Old Girls’ defence failed and lona won through long passes to B. Long who took up her position beneath the post and easily scored. P. Mcßeynolds was a hard worker among the lona forwards and N. Siemonek played her usual excellent defence game. Old Girls’ centres, H. Winter, P. Stubbings and M. Norris were able to outplay lona' centres, who missed the active play of P. Kilminster, transferred to the forwards. Possibly owing to the wet ground and wet ball, there was far too much personal contact in this game. Miss O. R. Sutherland refereed.

Playing at the Hospital, Wairarapa High School I. showed much better form than last Saturday. The forwards, J. Gemmell, M. Baskiville, M. Roys did excellent work. Miss M. Dwyer refereed.

Owing to the weather the Possible v. Probable match was postponed till next Saturday at 2.30 p.m. The following teams have been chosen to play:— Possibles: N. Cohen (W.HJS.O.G. I.), E. Jones (Stars I.), P. Kilminster (Iona), R. Brown (W.H.S.O.G. I.), P. Hogan (Iona), J. Ratner (Stars I.), L Renner (W.H.S.O.G. I.), I. Taylor (Stars I.), A. Burgess (Stars I.). Probables: D. O’DonneU (Stars I.), S. Frater (W.H.S.O.G. I.), P. Mcßeynolds (Iona), J. Renner (W.H.S.O.G. I.), H. Winter (W.H.S.O.G. II.), N Bennigton (W.H.S.O.G. I.), N. Siemonek (Iona), D. Gust (W.H.S.O.G. I.), A. Blake (Stars). Reserves: O. Long (Stars I.), M. Palmer (Tech. O. G.), B. Venner (Tech. 0.G.). A grade players are asked to note that June 13 will be set aside for A. grade teams to play any matches postponed owing to weather. In order to have the Possibles v. Probables match here next Saturday, Greytown A is to be asked to play Wairarapa High School Old Girls I. here instead of at Greytown. The Greytown team is also to be asked to play lona next Saturday, this match being postponed from May 2.
