Mr. Cliff George, of Wellington, is a Visitor to Masterton.
Mrs. H. E. Knell, of Kuratawhiti Street, Greytown, who celebrated her
100th birthday on Thursday, received callers from all parts of the Wellington district and was the recipient of many beautiful bouquets. Included among the large number of messages received by Mrs. Knell was one from King Edward VIII, dated May 20, which stated: “The King sends you hearty congratulations and good wishes on your hundredth birthday." The funeral of the late Mrs. Mary Masters Gawith took place yesterday morning. There was a large congregation at a service at St. Matthew's Church conducted by the Rev. E. J. Rich and the Rev. E. M. McLevie. A private interment took place at the Mastertp-n Cemetery, attended by relatives. A very large number of beautiful floral tributes testified to the high regard in which the late Mrs. Gawith was held. The pall-bearers were Messrs J. P. Tylee, C. B. Tplee, E. R. Maunsell, F. Maunsell, R. D. Perry, and Maurice Perry, all nephews of Mrs. Gawith.
