TRAGEDY IN SYDNEY.
RETURNED SOLDIER KILLED BY BOMB. DAUGHTER & FRIEND BADLY INJURED. RESULT OF EXHIBITING WAR SOUVENIR. SYDNEY, May 29. Edwin Hollingsworth, aged 44, a returned soldier, was killed last night when a Mills bomb, a war souvenir, exploded at his home at Randwick. His daughter Willa, aged 12, and Ernest Dickson, aged 19, were taken to hospital suffering from shocking injuries.
The accident apparently occurred when Hollingsworth was showing his daughter and a friend a collection of war relics. It is thought that the explosion was caused through the accidental removal of the safety pin from the bomb.
The explosion shattered the room in which the trio were sitting. Hollingsworth evidently was holding the bomb in his hand when it exploded and to some extent it is believed that his body shielded the others.
