WEST SCHOOL.
MEETING OF COMMITTEE. NEW HEADMASTER WELCOMED. A meeting of the Masterton West School Committee was held on Thursday evening, Mr. J. V. Gordon (chairman) presiding over a full attendance of members. A welcome was extended to Mr. W. T. Armstrong headmaster; Mr. Gordon expressing a wish that Mr. Armstrong’s stay at West School would be a long and happy one. Mr. Armstrong suitably replied. The resignation of Miss I. Taylor, infant mistress, was received and accepted with regret. The Wellington Education Board advised that Miss A. M. Marten, at present infant mistress of Kaiapoi School, had been appointed to fill the vacancy caused by Miss Taylor’s removal to Hastings. The Education Board advised that a subsidy had been granted for the purpose of purchasing suitable books for a reference library. Accounts amounting to £ll 3s 7d were passed.
The headmaster, Mr. W. Armstrong, reported the present roll number as being: Main School, 255; Side School. 99; total, 354. The committee expressed to Mr. N. Heyes its sincere appreciation of the manner in which he had carried out his duties as acting-headmaster for the first term of the year. The headmaster, Mr. Armstrong, also expressed his thanks to Mr. Hayes for the valuable assistance he had given him since his arrival in Masterton.
