FORTNIGHTLY MASTERTON SITTING.

The following cases were dealt with by Air. H. P. Lawry, S.M., in the Masterton Magistrate’s Court yesterday :r-

For having failed to give way to a car approaching from the right at the intersection of Dixon Street and Worksop Road on May 17, Stanley Gill was fined 30s and 10s costs. The police stated that the charge was the result of a motor collision at the intersection. Defendant apparently misjudged his speed and hit a small car, capsizing it.

Frank Carroll was fined 10s and 10s costs for having ridden a cycle after dark without a light on Te Ore Ore Road on bray 16.

For a similar offence in Chapel Street on May 16, George Thomas Wilson was fined 10s and costs 10s.

For having driven a car without a rear red light, Ralph Heathcote Tatham was fined 5s and 12s costs, Leslie Hogerty 5s and 10s costs, Noel Raymond Cunningham 5s and 10s costs, Percy Raymond Walker .5s and 10s costs and Cecil Walker 5s and 10s costs.

For having ridden a motor cycle in Queen Street on May 15 without having an efficient silencer, Kenneth Henry Brader was fined £1 and 10s costs. The Borough Traffic Inspector (Mr. J. McGregor) stated that at 8.50 pan. on May 15, he was at the corner of Renall and Queen streets and heard defendant coming along on a noisy motor cycle. He found, that one of the cylinders had no exhaust. He had had several complaints about the noise of motor cycles in the town. Defendant stated that the exhaust pipe had fallen off and he had been waiting till he had time at the week-end to put it on again.

On the information of the Traffic Inspector, Ralph Joseph Ferrill was fined 10s and 10s costs for having operated a lorry at Masterton on May 12 without having first obtained a heavy traffic license. Mr. C. C. Marsack appeared for defendant and entered a plea of guilty.

Edward James Burke (Deputy Radio Inspector) proceeded against Elsie Edith Jane Brenkley for having operated an unlicensed wireless set. A fine of 5s and 10s costs was imposed. Charged with the theft of a diamond ring, value at £7 10s, a married woman, whose name was suppressed, was convicted and admitted to probation for six months. Mr. J. Maefarlane Laing appeared for defendant and entered a plea of guilty.
