TRUST POLL

ONE NEW AND TWO RETIRING MEMBERS ELECTED. MR. J. L. HUGHES DEFEATED. DETAILS OF THE VOTING. The poll taken in Masterton yesterday to elect three representatives on the Trust Lands Trust resulted in the return of two retiring members, Messrs A. Owen Jones and E. G. Eton and a new member, Mr. C. E. Grey. The defeated candidates were Mr. J. L. Hughes, a retiring member and Mr. W. L. Butler. Mr. Hughes had served continuously on the Trust since 1922 and for the same period was chairman of the education committee. He was also an ex-chairman of the Trust. As there are 121 declaration votes still to be counted it is possible the official recount may alter the position of the bottom candidates. Details of the poll are (M. represents Municipal Hall; L. Lansdowne; R. Railway; K. Kuripuni, and F. Fernridge):—

The result of the poll was announced by the Returning Officer, Mr. W. B. Yates, forty minutes after the elosing of the booths. When the figures were known, Messrs Jones, Eton and Grey expressed thanks to those who had voted for them. The counting of the outstanding declaration votes and ffite official recount will take place to-day. A thanks notice is inserted in our advertising columns by Mr. Jones.
