The Registrar of Pensions will be in attendance at the Masterton Courthouse on Monday, June 1 at 2 p.m. for the purpose of dealing with the usual pension matters.

A meeting of the Christian Youth Council was held in the Y.M.C.A. on Wednesday evening. Representatives were present from the Methodist, Presbyterian and Anglican Bible classes. The King's Birthday Rally sub-com-mittee reported that the High School grounds had beep engaged for June 23 and a basketball and football tournament would be run during the day. Tea would be served in the Parish Hall, followed by an address. Two most interesting and entirely new selections, written by Mr. Charles Trussell, of Queensland, have been received by Mr. R. J. Young, conductor of the Masterton Municipal Band. The first is a fantasia of full length, and set to a story of ancient times . The story and music are original, and are Mr. Trussell's own work. He has called the fantasia “Nureedha." The second number is a march entitled ' ‘ Beauvallet." This is very fully scored, and will require great executive ability on the part of the players. Both are exclusive, and are the only scores in existence.

A deputation from the New Zealand Alliance of Labour and Trades and Labour Council waited on the Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage, and the Minister of Labour, the Hon. H. T. Armstrong, in Wellington yesterday, complaining that by the formation of guilds, which were really company unions inspired by employers, attempts were being made to undermine the industrial legislation being passed by the Government. “If we find anyone running us into a blind alley he is not going to keep us there long," said the Prime Minister, in reply. “They are not getting away with anything. We will cover the whole ground with retrospective legislation." —'(P.A.) The position regarding the earthing of fences is almost unaltered, stated Mr.. H. B. Keenan, engineer to the Wairarapa Power Board, in his annual report to the board at its meeting yesterday. It was of such importance to public safety that he again drew attention to the provisions of the regulations, which state that the owners of wire fences which parallel or intersect electric, lines should be supplied with instructions on how fences may be properly earthed to avoid danger in the event of an electric line breaking and making contact with the fence. The board, Mr. Keenan stated, had sent out 900 notices but in a period of seven years only about five per cent, of the fences had been earthed. It was decided to again send out notices.

The fourth annual meeting of the North Wairarapa Permanent Building and Investment Society was held last night. The chairman of directors, Mr. F. E. Wells, presided over a representative attendance of shareholders. It was reported that records had been established in the expansion of all departments of the society's business during the year. As intimated at thq previous annual the directors had adopted the policy of paying interim dividends. For the current year, the total dividend had been raised to 5| per cent. The retiring directors, Messrs 8. L. P. Free and G. Hyde, were re-elected on the motion of Mr. H. H, Daniell, who congratulated the directors and the secretary H. A. R. Dunderdale) on the excellent results attained and on the strong financial position of the society. Mr. N. H. James was re-elected auditor.
