ELECTIONS IN BELGIUM.
FASCIST ORGANISATION GAINS 20 SEATS. SOCIALISTS NOW STRONGEST PARTY. (Received Monday, 7.40 p.m.) BRUSSELS, May 24. The general election resulted in M. Rexist’s new Fascist organisation, aiming at the reform of political life, gaining twenty seats from the Catholics, formerly the biggest party in the Chamber, in which the Socialists are now the most important party, despite their losing three seats to the Communists. The results are not yet complete.
LARGEST PARTY. SOCIALISTS WITH SEVENTY SEATS. (Received This Day, 1.10 a.m.) BRUSSELS, May 25. The Socialists, with 70 seats, are the largest party. The Catholics have 63, a loss of 16, the Liberals 23, the Rexists 21, Flemish Nationalists 16, a gain of 8 and the Communists 9, a gain of 6. The Rexists, whose leader is the freelance, M. Degrelle, nicknamed “Peacock,” demand a cleanup of national politics. Although they are denounced as Fascists they do not possess a militant organisation. M. Hymans was defeated in Brussels. It is expected that the historic Burgomaster, M. Max may sacrificially resign in his favour.
