UNUSUAL ORDER.
SHOPPING BAN IMPOSED ON AUCKLAND WOMAN.
AUCKLAND, May 19. The unusual course of prohibiting a woman convicted of shoplifting from shopping in certain areas was adopted by Mr. Wyvern Wilson, S.M., this morning when dealing with Dorothy Borieh, married, aged 29, who pleaded guilty on Saturday to stealing a cake of soap valued at Is 3d. The Magistrate said that although she had twice previously been convicted, and when warned had undertaken not to go to this particular store again, he would take into consideration the fact that the accused had been attending the nerve clinic at the Auckland Hospital for some months and was still suffering from mental depression. He admitted her to probation for two years. “I think in this ease that I had better impose restrictions where the temptation will not be so great,” said the Magistrate. “She will be prohibited from shopping in Karangahape Road, Queen Street, and Hobson Street. 'She can do her shopping in the smaller shops.”—i(P.A.)
