LADIES’ GOLF TOURNEY.
OPENING PLAY AT LANSDOWNE YESTERDAY. CHAMPIONSHIP & HANDICAP DRAW. The open ladies' championship of the Masterton Golf Club was opened on the Lansdowne links yesterday in fine weather. A number of outside competitors are taking part and keen contests were seen yesterday. The results of yesterday's competitions were:— Medal round, A grade: Miss Joan Williams, 87, 18, 69; B grade: Mrs. Powell, 96, 24, 72. Bogey competition: A grade: Miss J. Williams, 1 down; B grade: Miss A. Donald, all square. The best gross score for the two qualifying rounds was that of Mrs. Crombie, 82, The teams match was won by Masterton (Miss Williams 69, Miss D. Todd 71, Miss James 82, Miss Hornabrook 87), 309. The draw for the first round of the open championship, which is to be played this morning, is as follows, these competitors having qualified yesterday:—9 a.m., Mrs. Crombie v. Mrs. Powell; 9.4, yiss A. Donald v. Mrs. Page; 9.8, Miss Hornabrook v. Mrs. Kfonkman; 9.12, Miss D. Todd v. Mrs. Hanson; 9.16, Mrs. Williams v. Mrs. Maitland; 9.20, Miss Lee v. Miss Jury; 9.24, Miss Jefferd v. Mrs. Steel; 9.28, Miss James v, Mrs. Prior. The draw for the first round of the Lansdowne Handicap is as follows:— 8.45 a.m., Mrs. Herbert v. Miss Evans; 8.49, Miss Pearce v. Miss Struthers: 8.53, Miss Jordan v. Mrs. WeltonHogg; 8.57, Miss Lord v. Mrs. Daniell; 9.32, Miss Collins v. Miss Oates; 9.36, Mrs. Parton v. Mrs. Major; 9.40, Miss Peacock v. Miss Parker; 9.44, Miss B. Todd v. Miss Percy. The following will take part in a medal competition at 8.45 a.m. from No. .9 tee: Miss Murray v. Mrs. Burridge; Mrs. Mclntosh v. Miss B. Beetham; Miss M. Maunsell v. Miss A, Beetham; Mrs. Perry a bye. A fourball will be played in the afternoon.
