PRISONERS SENTENCED'.
WELLINGTON, May 18.
Sentences of twelve months’ imprisonment to be served concurrently on each of three charges of breaking, entering, and theft were imposed by Mr. Justice Blair in the Supreme Court today upon Hugh Rupert Austin, a musician, who pleaded guilty in the Lower Court to the charges.
Samuel Allen, who was found guilty of theft from a dwelling-house at Pahiatua, was admitted to probation for two years and ordered to pay the costs of the prosecution, £35 4s Bd. Mr. E. D. Blundell appeared for him. Probation for three years was extended to Herbert Henry Ash, who had pleaded guilty to breaking, entering, and theft, and to theft. Mr. J. Meltzer appeared for him.
Thomas Barbour admitted committing a breach of his probationary licence, and on the original charge of theft he was sentenced to eighteen months’ imprisonment.—'(P.A.)
