WOMAN FATALLY INJURED.

STRUCK BY MOTORCYCLE IN CHRISTCHURCH.

TWO MEN SERIOUSLY HURT. CHRISTCHURCH, May 18. Mrs. Helen Adam, aged 56, died in the Christchurch Hospital last evening as the result of an accident in Ferry Road when she was struck by a motorcycle and received severe head injuries and a compound fracture of the right leg. The rider of the motorcycle, J. Raistrick, of 60 Antigua Street, received head injuries which necessitated an operation and his condition is serious. L. Wehner, of 10 Disraeli Street, who was riding on the pillion, also had to be operated upon for severe head injuries, but his condition was stated to be not so serious as that of Raistrick.

Mrs. Adam was crossing Ferry Road near the intersection with Grafton Street about 5.50 p.m. She had almost reached the pavement when she was struck by the motor-cycle which was going towards the city. Wehner was thrown towards the footp-ath and struck a lamp-post. The condition of both the injured men was reported this morning to be slightly improved.— (P.A.)
