MAORI KILLED.
KNOCKED DOWN BY MOTOR TRUCK. ROTORUA;, January 20. Fatal injuries were received by a native named Haira Whareaitu, 18; when struck by a truck while running across a rnadwky in the vicinity of Whakarewarewa late this afternoon. Mr. W. Costello, driver of the truck, swerved sharply to the right side of the road in an effort to avoid the accident but Whareaitu was struck and received severe head injuries. After being attended to by a doctor he was ordered into the public hospital but died before admittance to the institution.— (P.A.)
