SUICIDE IN PRISON.

REMAND PRISONER ENDS LIFE. CORONER’S OBSERVATION. SYDNEY, March 21. At an inquest regarding the death of George Henry Davis, aged 46, a prisoner on remand, who was found hanged in a cell in Long Bay gaol, the police stated that on his release from the Bathurst gaol last year detectives obtained employment for him with a city firm and he promised to reform. The firm was very pleased with Davis’s work, but subsequently he commenced to rob his employers and was arrested. The jury recorded a verdict of suicide, with no blame attachable to the officials of the gaol.

The Coroner said that Davis was probably overcome by remorse.
