LONDON WOOL SALES.

The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, has received the following advice from its London House dated May 1st:—Wool sales: There was a good attendance at the opening of the sales to-day, competition by Home and French buyers being fairly active. The opening catalogues were fairly representative. As compared with last sales closing rates prices are lower par to id per lb. for merino; id to Id per lb. for crossbred.

The following cable, dated May 1, has been received from Messrs Balme and Thomas, London, reports the Bank of Australasia:—London Colonial wool sales, merino par to 5 per cent, cheaper; fine crossbred, 5 per cent, cheaper; medium crossbred, 71 per cent, cheaper; coarse crossbred, 10 per cent, cheaper; slipe, 5 per cent, cheaper; below last series’ closing rates.”

Messrs Dalgety and Company, Ltd., report, London May I:—Sales opened with large attendance, selection being mostly crossbreds. Competition irregular and hesitating. Good demand for "'Hrtings. As compared with closing rates of last series:—Merino, par to id lower; fine crossbred, id to id lower; medium and coarse crossb'red, id to Td lower; fine slipe, Id to id lower; medium and coarse slipe, id to Id lower. No German buying but possibility some next week.

The New Zealand Farmers’ Co-oper-ative Distributing Co., Ltd., advise having, received the following cable from their London House:—“Wool sales opened to-day and prices compared with close of last series good attendance and competition. Merinos par to 5 per cent, down; greasy fine crossbreds, 5 per cent, down; medium crossbreds, 5 per cent, to 7i per cent, down; greasy coarse crossbreds, 10 per cent, down; scoured slipes, 5 per cent, down; quantity available 76,000 bales.”
