QUARRY FATALITY.
WORKER BURIED UNDER MET AT, AUCKLAND, March 14. A fatal accident occurred at the quarries on the bank of the Waikato River at Tuakau, when a workman, Alfred Charles Baigent, 47, married, was buried by metal dust in a hopper and was suffocated. It is thought that the deceased was standing on top of the metal when it suddenly gave way beneath him. He was hurled to the bottom of the hopper, being buried beneath about 20 tons of dust. No one saw the accident but his absence led to the surmise that a mishap had occurred. His companions quickly recovered Baigent but a doctor found that death had occurred. The deceased is survived by a wife, two sons and two daughters.—(P.A.)
