GOLF.
Tl MITT CLUB’S ANNUAL MEETING. A SUCCESSFUL. SEASON.. There was a large attendance at-the' annual meeting of the Tinui Golf Club held, last Saturday night. Tn the first annual report, the president, the Rev. J. C. Abbott, congratu-. lated members and all concerned on the success achieved last year. After ntfurring to the difficulties experienced in the first year off a club’s existences Mfc- Abbott said that the untiring efforts of the committee and other members had enabled them to overcome those difficulties, and he trusted that the club would continue to expand and prosper. Thanks and appreciation were expressed to Mr. H. B. Maunsell for the use of his property for links, and to Mr. E. W. Perry (Masterton) for advice as to the lay-out. The golf ball hod proved an outstand*tig success and reference was made to the work of Mr. and Mrs. Newman in decorating the hall for the occasion. Tire la dies had done valuable-work in providing refreshments during the season and sincere thanks were expressed to the secretary, Mr. L. D. Cameron, for his valuable services rendered in rhe interests of the club. The club membership stood at 6-5 and the finances were in a healthy position.
During the season the club competitions were won as follow:—Ladies’ events, Mesdames Powell, W. Laing, .Savage; men, Messrs. W. Laing (2), L. D. Cameron and the Rev. J. C. Abbott.
The thanks of the club were expressed to the following who donated trophies: Messrs. Guy Groves, Ti Peet, A. Donald and' Elliott & Co.
The following officers were elected for the ensuing year:—Patron, Mr. H. t B. Maunsell; president, the Rev. J. C. ; Abbott; vice-presidents, Messrs. W. G. I Groves, H. Bennett; captain, Mr. J. M. 1 Laing; deputy-captain, Mr. F. H; Ben- i nett; secretary and treasurer, Air. L. ; D. Cameron; committee, above officers and Messrs. C. Beiliss, E. Maunsell, T. Peet, R. Newman, J. Dalziell; ladies’ committee, Mrs. Powell (capt.), Mrs. F. Bennett, Misses Langdon and J. Laing. It was decided to open the season on April 7. RIVERSIDE CLUB; SEASON OPENS AFTER EASTER. The annual meeting of tile Riverside Golf Club- was held in the A. and P. Rooms last night. Mr. W. J. Palamontain presided over an attendance of about fifty members. The resignation of Mr. W. V. Madden from the position of honorary secretary and treasurer was accepted with regret. Mr. Madden agreed tocarry on pro-tem until a successor was appointed. As a token of appreciation of his services he was granted a year’s free membership. On the motion of Mr. M. A. Rawlins the entrance fee was raised from £1 is to £1 10s. The question of incorporation of the club was held over for twelve months. The opening day was fixed for the first Saturday after Easter, when a mixed foursome would be played. The incoming committee was instructed to arrange a tournament during the Easter week-end. A motion by Mr. Rawlins to the effect that the work of the club be centralised, by which the preparation of the weekly draw and of the necessary data thereto would be carried out by the secretary at his office, was carried. A recommendation was made to the incoming committee that junior members be catered for by arranging matches with the Solway Club. The following officers were elected for the coming year:—President, Mr. W. C. Batty; viee-president, Mr. W. J. Rew; club captain, Mr. E. Einam; hon. auditor, Mr. W. J. Beresford; committee, Messrs F. E. Wells, D. P. Shepherd, H. Keisenberg, N. Ninnes, W. J. Beresford, C. E. Rogers, Miss-N. Selby and Mrs. W. J. Palamontain; social committee, Miss Cole, Mrs. V. C. Taylor, Messrs V. C. Taylor and W. J. Rew.
A hearty vote of thanks was passed to the outgoing committee.
