“THE ONLY REMEDY.”
INVERCARGILL MAGISTRATE’S WARNING. INVERCARGjTLL, August 28. An unemployed married man with five children appeared in the Police Court to-day charged with driving a motor car while intoxicated. In placing him on probation for two years and cancelling his licence, Mr. E. C. Lewey, S.M., expressed the opinion that the only remedy was imprisonment. He issued a warning that no matter what the circumstances might be, if people chose to drive vehicles while in a state of intoxication the Court could give no option of a fine.— (P.A.)
