BANNI.K SHIELD CONTEST. CAKTERTON BEAT KIWI. Playing at Lansdowne on -Saturday, Carterton defeated Kiwi A by 3/1 in. the semi-final of the Bannin Shield coinpetition. The game resolved itself into a first-class exhibition of the code, being fast and spectacular. Carterton were the first to find their feet and early in the game had Kiwi in trouble. They were -two up after twenty minutes ' play. A change round among the Kiwi forwards saw an improvement and play became very even. Foster scored a rather lucky goal for Kiwi and the half-time whistle sounded with the score,. 2/1 in Carterton's favour. On resuming, Kiwi had the better of the game but found the defence very solid, and. when they did get past them, found the Carterton goalie well on his game, to make some wonderful saves in the net. G. Riggs .put Carterton in a safe position by scoring a good goal, making them two up. Despite this, however, Kiwi kept up a hot attack and had the Carterton backs hard pressed but Carterton kept their.- end up and walked off victors by 3/1. Messrs. G. Hayne and S. A Wairarapa senior representative team journeyed to Wellington and’ defeated a Wellington representative team by 2/1, after a very fast and exciting game, played’ at N’ewtown Park. The Wairarapa junior repreesntatives who also made the trip to Wellington, were defeated by th©' Wellington junior representatives by 2/0- The game was very evenly contested’-but the WaL rarapa forwards lacked combination. The backs were fair, but a trifle slow in getting the ball away. Miss Nola Smith, however, was brilliant, and was classed as easily the best back on the ground. The Wairarapa teams returned home the same evening after being hospitably entertained by fthe> Wellington- Association.
