CARTERTON SALE.

Messrs. Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd., report:—We held our weekly sale at Carterton yesterday, when w offered a very large entry of dairy cattle, several pens of pigs and sheep to a good attendance. All the cattle pens were full and we offered over 100 springing cows and heifers. The entry rather exceeded the demand, with the result that late calvers and cattle not in condition were hard to quit The best quality heifers on drop met with animated competition, and prices ranged up to £6/15/-. The general price for the best heifers this season is somewhere between £5 and £6/10/-, but heifers of not quite top quality, or later calvers, only command interest at prices ranging between £2/10/- and £3/10/-. Store cattle and fats made late rates. Pigs sold well and showed an advance on last week. There is a particularly strong demand for good weaners at present. Sheep sold at late rates. Prices:—
Sheep.—B.f. hoggets, to 12/6; hoggets, to 12/1; fat hogget, 27/6.
Cattle.—Second calvers, £5 to £5/5/-; springing heifers (good), £5, £5/10/-, £6/2/6 to £6/15/-; springing heifers, £3, £3/2/6, £3/7/6, £3/10/-, £3/12/6, £4 to £4/10/-; later calvers, 37/6, £2; £2/5/-, £2/12/6 to £2/15/-; springing tows, £3/5/-, £4, £4/15/-, £5 to £5/5/-; later calvers, 30/-, 35/-, 37/7 to 47/6; heifers, r.w.b., 20/-, 27/6, 31/-, 36/- to 47/-; empty heifers ,16/-, 21/-, 32/6, 35/-, 36/-, 44/- to 45/-; fat cows, to £2/7/-; forward condition cows, 23/-, 27/6 to 30/-; store cows, 14/-, 16/- to 18/-; Jersey bulls, 20/- to 40/-. Pigs.—Weaners (small), 9/-, 9/6 to 10/-; weaners, 11/-, 11/6, 12/-, 13/-, 13/6, 14/-, 15/-, 16/- to 17/-; slips, to 19/-; porkers (light), 31/6; porkers, to 30/-; sows to farrow, £4/10/-.
