LYTTELTON SEAT.
MRS. McCOMBS OPENS CAMPAIGN. REMARKABLE RECEPTION. CHRISTCHURCH, August 25. A remarkable reception was accorded Mrs. E. M. McCombs, Labour candidate for Lyttelton, when she opened her campaign at Lyttelton this evening. There was a prolonged demonstration from a crowded audience whjen she rose to speak and at the end of her address there was cheering and applaufee for several minutes. She said that if elected she would vote for the restoration of educational facilities and she spoke at length of the harm done, especially to the sons and daughters of working men, by the reduction of expenditure on education. Mrs. McCombs crticised the Government’s unemployed policy and enumerated Labour's policy for dealing with the problem. She was accorded a vote of thanks and confidence.—(P.A.)
