SMALL FARMS.
MACHINERY SUBMITTED TO CABINET. WELLINGTON, April 6. The necessary machinery providing for administration of the Small Farms (Belief of Unemployment) Act which was passed last session is now ready and awaits Cabinet approval. No decision has been reached as to which Minister will have charge of the administration of the Act. Up to the present, the Minister of Finance (the Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates) has been in charge, but in view of the important portfolios he already holds it is doubtful whether he will continue in charge of the legislation. The Minister of Employment (the Hon. A. Hamilton) already has his hands full, and it is suggested that the Minister of Lands (the Hon. E. A. Ransom) may be asked to administer the Act.
The Act provides for the setting up of a board of not less than three and not more than five members to assist in the work of administration. The board is to appoint local committees, of which the Commissioner of Crown Lands is to be the chairman.—<(P.A.)
