FOOD FOR RELIEF.

AMPLE! SUPPLY AVAILABLE IN NEW ZEALAND. PURCHASE. BY GOVERNMENT URGED. CHRISTCHURCH, April 5. A recommendation that the Minister of Employment arrange for the purchase and storage of wheat and meat for relief purposes during the coming winter was made by a conference of local bodies. Mr. M. E; Lyons said the food was in the country, but the difficulty was to get it collected and distributed. Canterbury was teeming this season with under grade wheat which in other seasons would have been classed as of milling quality. There was no need for anyone in New Zealand to go hungry this winter. The Unemployment Board should be urged to take time by the forelock and buy ample stocks of flour and meat.—(P.A.)
