MASTERTON’S CLUB’S ANNUAL REPORT. SUCCESSFUL SEASON RECORDED. Following is the annual report of the Masterton Harrier Club, to be presented at the annual meeting, to be held in the Y.M.C.A. Rooms at 7.45 o’clock on Thursday night:— “In presenting the nineteenth annual report and balance sheet to members, the committee has pleasure in reporting that the season under review has proved to be a most successful and enjoyable one for all. The response of members to the appeals of the committee for assistance in its various enterprises has been excellent and it is sincerely hoped that the same spirit will prevail during the coming season. The finances of the club have had the deepest consideration of the committee and with careful management the club is now in the enviable position of having, apart from a substantial credit balance, an extra twenty pounds added to its Trust Fund. “A resume of the chief events is:— Provincial Championships.

“The provincial championships which were held under the auspices of this club, were an outstanding success. The A team ran a solid race for fourth place. The B team won the B grade championship for the first time in the history of the club. After running fourth in the A grade, L. Hack was included in the Wellington team to contest the New Zealand championships at Christchurch and we offer him our heartiest congratulations on his success. L. A. Keats was selected as manager of the Wellington team on this occasion.

“Inter-Club. — The Benson Trophy was regained from the Wanganui Club after two very interesting races. In the final raee at Masterton, the home team won by 88 points after having been soundly .beaten at Wanganui by 54 points. Thus the home team won the coveted ‘gate’ by an aggregate of 34 points. The Sanders Cup contest was held this year at Petone and after a very even raee Hutt Valley were successful in regaining the trophy by the narrow margin of 13 points. Twelve members also visted Hastings where they were hospitably entertained by members and supporters of the newlyformed Hastings Club. District Championships. “Ten Miles: Won by L. Hack with Alec Burns runner-up; five miles, won by L. Hack, with Jim Burns runner-up; Club championship and Wyeth Medal (five miles), won by L. Hack, with Jim Burns runner-up; Cameron Cup, won by G. W. Kempton, with E. Buckton run-ner-up; Shaw Rose Bowl, won by L. Hack with J. Haise runner-up. Trophies: C. W. Willis trophy, won by A. Burns; G. W. Kempton’s trophy, won by W. McDonald; L. S. Nicol’s trophy, won by J. Herd; Mrs. J. McDonald’s trophy, won by E. Shaw. In order to stimulate interest in cross-country running the clnb presented a handsomo Challenge Cupi to the Wairarapa High School for annual competition. i,ast year it was won in grand style by R Todd. Appreciations. “The club is again greatly indebted to the excellent ladies’ committee for the many valuable services they have given during the year. Owing to their .efforts, the social functions held during the season were highly successful and they contributed largely to the particularly happy season.
