FIRST SALE OF THE SEASON AT DUNEDiN. CONTINENTAL BUYERS ACTIVE. COMPETITION VERY KEEN. DUNEDIN, December 20. Tha first sale of Uie 1932-33 season was held to-day. There was a large attendance oi farmers and interested spectators. The sale opened to a full bench of b-ijera representing Bradl old, tne Cantinent and Japan, as well as Dominion mills and local speculators. Competition from the outset was particularly keen, cspcc ally from tho Continental section. It was evident that the limits from the Continent were about those held by the Bradford representatives, with the result that the sale was dominated by Continental buyers, with Bradford picking up odd lots suitable to their requirements. Bellies and pieces were very keenly competed for and the major portion were secured by French buyers. Dominion mills, when fine super lots came under the hammer would not be denied and secured most of the lots suitable to their requirements. The wool opened up in heavier condition than the previous vear, but was bright and sound and particularly well grown. Following is the official range of prices:—Merino: Extra super, to 12|d; super, 9<l to lid; average, 7jd to Sjd; inferior, 5d to 6}d. Fine halfbred: Extra super, lid to 12d; super, 9Jd to 10jd; average, 7jd to Old; inferior, 6d to 6}d. Medium Halfbred: Extra super, 9jd to lid; super, B}d to 9id; average, 7}d to 8d; inferior, 6d to 7d. Fine Crossbred: Super, 6jd to "»fl; average, sjd to 6d; inferior, 3jd to sd. Medium Crossbred: Super, s}d to 6d; average, 4d to sd; inferior, 2jd to 3Jd. Hoggets: Fine, 6d to fQd; medium, 4sd to 7d. Bellies and Pieces: Merino, good to super 6sd to Bsd, low to medium 4}d to 6}d; halfbred, good to super 7d to 9)d, low to medium 3fd to 6jd; crossbred, good to super 5d to 7d, low to medium 2)d to 4jd.
