INDIAN OFFICIAL KILLED.
ATTEMPT TO RESCUE BEATER FROM TIGER. (Received Tuesday, 7 p.m.) CALCUTTA, December 19. Mr. John Gilbert Bourne, DeputyCommissioner of the Bettul district, in thc Central Provinces, died as a result of injuries received from a tiger while gallantly attempting to rescue an Indian beater who was being mauled. Mr. Bourne shot and fatally wounded one tiger, whose mate attacked a beater and then turned on Mr. Bourne.
