ESPERANTO CONGRESS.
OPENING IN MASTERTON NEXT WEEK. The fourth New Zealand Esperanto congress will take place under the auspices of the New Zealand Esperanto Association at Masterton during the Christmas holidays. Arrangements have been completed for the congress to commence at the Y.M.C.A. on Boxing Day and to extend over the two following days. Mr. G. B. Sykes, M.P.. honorary president of the Masterton Esperanto Club, has accepted an invitation to open the congress. The assemblage will inelude in addition to the local enthusiasts, club representatives, Universal Esperanto Association delegates, and Esperantists from various parts of the Dominion. The following is the detailed programme: December 27.-2 p.m. formal openingjwelcome to delegates, etc.; official photograph. 3 p.m.: N.Z.E.A. annual general meeting. 8 p.m.; concert and social evening. Esperanto and English will be used during these sessions. December 28: 10 a.m. wholeday motor picnic at Mt. Holdsworth Reserve. 8 p.m., public meeting. December 29, 10 a.m.: Meeting of New Zealand section of the Universal Esperanto Association (to be conducted entirely in Esperanto). Noon, luncheon and formal closing (English and Esperanto). With headquarters at Wellington and under the patronage of Sir George Fowlds, president of the Auckland University Council, and of Prof. Macmillan Brown, Chancellor of the New Zealand University, the N.Z.E.A. concluded its fourth year’s operations on November 30, last. The Association is -the Dominion parent body of five affiliated clubs, a class conducted under the auspices of the W.E.A., a junior class, and of a substantial membership drawn from over 70 towns. The first congress was held at Wellington, the second at Auckland, and last year’s at Christchurch.
