A Nelson Press Association message reports that Margaret W. Rihana, agM fifteen, was drowned while bathing in the Gowan River. Reginald Victor Deacon Hull, aged 39, was sentenced at Auckland yesterday to reformative detention for a term not exceeding two years for stealing £985, the property of the Co-operative Ltd., of which he was secretary.—(P.A.) A level crossing smash between the 8.30 a.m. train to Palmerston North and a milk van owned by Mr. A. 8. Aplin occurred between Ngaio and Khandallah yesterday morning. The van was badly damaged, and milk cans were scattered about the road. There were two passengers in the van at the time, Mr. Aplin and his son, but neither received any serious injury. The ascident was caused by the engine of the van stalling. i There was a large gathering at St. Mark’s Hall, Carterton, last week, when the final card games for the year were played and after supper dancing was indulged in until the smal l hours of the morning. Mrs O’Connell and Mr. Purchas won the Monte Carlo awards. The winners in the six week's aggregate were Mrs Lenihan 1 and Mrs Humphries 2, and Messrs Jaquery and Lindop took the men’s aggregates. In the gsmes played that evening the placed ladies were Miss Taylor, 1; Mrs Clark, 2; Mrs Meyriek, 3. The successful men were Mr. O’Connor 1; Mr. Jaquery 2; and Mr. Marsh 3. The travelling prizes for the night were won by Mrs Pauling and Miss Taylor. During the evening the Rev. W. F. 'Stent, Vicar of St. Marks, thanked the committee and all who had in any way assisted in making the weekly gathering such a huge success, and expressed his pleasure in receiving such a substantial cheque towards the painting of St. Mark’s Church.
