ENGLAND COMPILE BIG SCORE AT LAUNCESTON. AMES AND PAYNTER MAKE MERRY. MATCH AGAINST TASMANIA. (Received Sunday, 6.30 p.m.) LAUNCESTON, December 18. Seven wickets fell for 107 before lunch on the second day of the match, England v. Tasmania. Ames and Paynter joined the century-makers, the former scoring his runs in 163 and the latter in 128 minutes. Ames hit ten 4’s and Paynter twelve 4’s and one 6. England was dismissed for 502. Rain fell during the luncheon adjournment. Rushforth, the Tasmanian captain, was unable to resume to-day owing to a leg injury. Heavy rain at five o’clock ended play for the day.
