CHRISTMAS TREE PARTY.

SELF HELP CLUB ENTERTAINS CHILDREN. HAPPY AND ENJOYABLE GATHERING. The Municipal Hall presented a very animated scene, on Saturday afternoon, when 240 children of the unemployed of Masterton, together with their parents, gathered at the Self Help Club Christmas Tree party. Three large trees, which were laden with toys, balloons, etc, made a very gay picture. Each present had been chosen for the individual child, and was labelled with its name. The gifts were systematically arranged in alphabetical groups on each tree, to facilitate distribution. At 2 p.m, Father Christmas, with three assistants, arrived by his magie aeroplane, and was welcomed by the children. Father Christmas then spoke a few words to the children, after which he proceeded to dispose of the presents from the trees. The Regent Orchestra, which gave gratis service, was in attendance all the afternoon, and its many items were much appreciated. A very dainty afternoon tea was served to the parents daring the aftersoon, and the Christmas Tree Committee is indebted to the ladies’ committee, under the supervision of Mrs J. V. Dolan, which so efficiently attended to this feature of the gathering. Bran tubs in charge of committeemen, were arranged at the exit door, and each child, on leaving the hall, was presented with a bag of lollies and allowed a lucky dip in the Bren Tub. The public of Masterton, who so generously donated the toys and cash which made this function possible, would have felt well repaid for any sacrifice they had made, eould they have seen the beaming faces of the children, as they came through the hall door on their homeward way. Valuable assistance to the Self Help Club Christmas Tree committee was rendered by The Regent Orchestra, the W. Ltd., the ladies' committee, Messrs A. E. and G’. Bate and J. V. Dolan and members of the Self Help Club. The Christmas Tree Committee has every reason to feel gratified with the result of the afternoon’s function. Only concentrated organisation could have achieved such a happy and successful entertainment.
